Yes, the real Nana Z. is actually Nicki’s own mother. And, no, not all stories truly happened. The Adventures of Nana Z. is loosely based on Nicki’s own mother with some things being true to life, but not all.

The inspiration for The Adventures of Nana Z. comes from a few places. As a mom of two boys (now young men), Nicki saw firsthand how hard it can be to pull kids away from electronics and get them excited about reading. Ironically, the stories her boys loved most weren’t in books—they were the hilarious, action-packed adventures told by Nicki’s mother, their beloved “Nana Z.”
Nicki realized that kids are naturally drawn to humor, adventure, and storytelling. She wanted to capture that same energy in a book series that could compete with screens while helping kids rediscover the joy of reading.
At the same time, Nicki was increasingly concerned by the rising rates of illiteracy, screen dependency, and depression among tweens and teens. Wanting to make a difference, she created The Adventures of Nana Z. to entertain kids while encouraging curiosity, confidence, and kindness.
Each book in the series also supports charitable causes, teaching young readers that giving back and helping others can be both meaningful and fun.
